Hockey Term: Kicking Back

Kicking back: A field player or substitute who takes the place of the goalkeeper when the starting goalkeeper is unavailable. This player is allowed to use her feet to stop the ball while inside the defensive shooting circle. A kicking back must wear a distinguishing jersey. In the event of a defensive penalty corner or a stroke, the kicking back must wear a throat protector, chest protector, and helmet.
