Youth Development at Durbanville Hockey Club

By durbshockey | In Announcements, Club News, Youth Development | on May 11, 2014

Durbanville Hockey Club is proud to present you with the Youth Development Hockey Squad mentoring programme. This came about after after we had many enquiries for a coaching programme for those hockey players who fall within the gap between Mini-Hockey and League Hockey. There are also a number of scholars in Grades 11 and 12, who due to academic workload cannot attend regular practice sessions.

Who qualifies?

Hockey players who are still scholars, age 14 and over.
These players will become Durbanville Hockey Club’s L6 & M6 teams.

What does this mean?

They will play within the WP Club League. Each team will be mentored by an adult Team Manager.

What is the cost involved?

We have been able to reduce the cost to R700 for the 2014 season – this will cover the minimum WP affiliation fees. Players will also have to purchase kit.

How will it work?

  1. Fixtures will be played weekly (usually on a Saturday afternoon)
  2. There will be no specific practice for these players – if players would like to attend practice they may request to join the L5 Ladies’ team or the M5 Men’s team
  3. Only players attending practice may be promoted to higher league teams – in the event of promotion the balance of the membership fee of R650 becomes due and payable
  4. Team Manager will coach before the game and during the game
  5. Astro matches for home games

We will also be extending this development programme to include:

  1. Umpire training and grading
  2. Coaching grading and opportunities
